Each one offers its own charm, some polished and glamorous, others warm and heritage rich, but all worthy of the title Cape Winelands Big 6 Wine Farms.
Boschendal
Founded in 1685 and still looking rather youthful for its age. We chose Boschendal, because it wears its history like a vintage label, confident and classic, while offering visitors orchards, gardens and wines that taste like sunshine in a bottle. A picnic here can turn an ordinary afternoon into something to brag about.
Fun thought… Boschendal proves that age can be delicious when well stored.
Delaire Graff
If estates were royalty, this one would insist on a throne. We chose Delaire Graff, because its polished tasting rooms, fine dining, artwork and dramatic mountain views create a luxurious experience that almost makes you want to move in permanently.
Side effect… sudden urge to check accommodation rates.
Babylonstoren
This estate brings fruit trees, vegetable gardens and vineyards together like an unexpected but lovable plot twist. We chose Babylonstoren, because its combination of heritage, expansive gardens and relaxed wine tastings encourages slow sipping, long wandering and a few extra photos.
Tip… your camera may refuse to take a day off.
Haute Cabrière
Carved into the Franschhoek mountains, this cellar feels dramatic even before the first pour. We chose Haute Cabrière, because the cellar itself, the views and its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay offerings create a tasting experience that’s as memorable as it is delicious. Sabrage occasionally appears, usually performed by someone confident with a blade. Attempting it yourself after a few tastings is brave, but perhaps unwise.
Vergelegen
More than three centuries of heritage stand behind Vergelegen. We chose Vergelegen, because its sweeping lawns, ancient trees and elegant buildings offer a stately backdrop for expressive reds that deserve full attention and maybe a second glass.
Lanzerac
Lanzerac helped shape South African wine identity. We chose Lanzerac, because as the first to bottle Pinotage, it holds a unique place in local wine history while offering elegant spaces, quality wines and an inviting environment for a full tasting and a relaxing meal.

Visit one or visit all six, but always remember the golden rule of wine tasting: swirl, sniff, sip and pretend to understand tannin structure even if you are mostly there for the view.
