Simon’s Town sits along the False Bay coastline on the southern side of the Cape Peninsula, about 40 minutes from central Cape Town. It is a working naval town with layered history, colourful Victorian buildings, and a relaxed seaside pace. You can stroll along the harbour, visit the South African Naval Museum, browse small shops, or walk coastal paths with clear ocean views.
Just outside town, you will find beaches, tidal pools, and penguins at Boulders Beach. The best time to visit is from October to April when the weather is warmer and ideal for walking and boat trips, although winter visits are quieter and less crowded.
There are several cafés and seafood restaurants along the main road and harbour. The town is child friendly, with calm beaches and short walking routes. Public bathrooms are available near main attractions. Most areas are accessible, with paved walkways, though some older buildings have steps.
Access to the town is free, while certain attractions charge entry fees. Parking is generally safe and available along the street. One experience not to miss is visiting Boulders Beach, often paired with Cape Point and Kalk Bay.
