Explore the Kaapsehoop

Kaapsehoop is a small and scenic village in Mpumalanga, set on the highveld plateau above Nelspruit and known for its misty landscapes, rocky outcrops, and free-roaming wild horses. It offers a peaceful escape with opportunities for hiking, horse riding, bird-watching, and exploring the unique Kaapsehoop sandstone formations.

Visitors can enjoy forest walks, lookout points with sweeping valley views, and local craft shops. The best time to visit is during the cooler, clearer months from April to September, although the village’s misty atmosphere is a highlight year-round.

There are several dining options in the village, including cafés and small restaurants. The area is child-friendly and bathrooms are available at restaurants and selected public points. Some pathways are uneven, so wheelchair access is limited.

Most viewpoints and village areas are free to access, with safe parking available near restaurants and trail starts. The one must-experience activity is viewing the wild horses at sunrise. Kaapsehoop is often paired with visits to Kruger National Park or the Panorama Route.
