The Graskop Gorge Lift is a unique and accessible activity that takes visitors from the top of the gorge down to the Afromontane forest via a glass-fronted elevator. This is a self-guided experience, but if you are traveling with a guided group, your guide will lead you along the trails through the forest, pointing out highlights along the way.
The full activity, including exploring the suspension bridge and forest paths, takes approximately 45–60 minutes. It is child-friendly and partially wheelchair-accessible, though some forest trails are uneven. The activity is safe and does not require high fitness levels, making it suitable for visitors with average health.
Its main focus is nature and photography, with dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and lush forest providing excellent scenery. The gorge, carved by the Dwars River over thousands of years, offers a glimpse into the region’s geological history within the rich Afromontane ecosystem.
Visitors to Graskop Gorge can spot a variety of wildlife, including dassies (rock hyrax), bushbucks, and a range of birds such as Knysna turacos, Cape robins, and various forest-dwelling species.
